MIND IS A GHOST
A motivational short story mentioned
by Sri Sri Sitaramdas Omkarnath

Once there was a Brahmin who was very poor, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't improve his situation. He was compelled to take refuge in an exorcist, hoping that if the exorcist could identify a ghost, he might be able to get some relief. The exorcist agreed, and the Brahmin kept one of the identified ghosts as his servant with the condition that he would never be idle, or else he would choke the Brahmin.

Asking for work is not a difficult task. The Brahmin asked the ghost to build him a beautiful bungalow with a pond and a garden in front of it, and within moments, the house was ready as per the Brahmin's wishes. Now the ghost asked for new work, and the Brahmin asked him to make arrangements for food items such as rice, lentils, oil, jaggery, and sugar for one year, which was done within seconds. Then the ghost asked for a lot of money, so the Brahmin asked him to bring two baskets full of coins, which was also done immediately.

Wow! The ghost finished all the work so quickly. However, the Brahmin couldn't think of any more work to give him. But the ghost refused to leave. The Brahmin was perplexed as he couldn't remember any other task at that time. The ghost said to the Brahmin, "Okay, you..." But then the Brahmin couldn't think of any more work to give him, and the story ends with that note.

The moral of the story is that the mind is everything, and we should keep our minds active and occupied with positive thoughts, or else it can create chaos in our lives.
