THOU WILT FIND PEACE IN THE NAME
(Excerpts from Streams of Nectar)
By Sri Sri Sitaramdas Omkarnath

XV.

Repeat the Name, forgetful mind! Thou art
Unconscious through too much pride in the body.
Thou art not the body, thou art a blissful soul.
Get rid of egoism by chanting the Name.
The devotee wants union not merging.
In union lies supreme bliss, devotees say.
Don’t worry about which of these thou needest,
Chant the Name day and night without pause.
‘With heart and soul I take refuge in Thee’—
Pray thus, there’s nothing here like this prayer.
‘I take my refuge in those shining feet’—
Pray so with body and mind again and again.
The Lord will grant thee freedom from all fear,
Thou wilt win the battle for spiritual might.
Repeat the Name, sing it, make it all in all,
There’s no other way to go, Sitaram, servant of the Lord!

XVI.

‘Not today but tomorrow’, thou sayest, and time passes.
Thou hast forgotten thy earliest promise.
‘I’ll go to the world and worship Thee, Hari!’
Was the promise made by thee in the womb.
After thy birth thou hast forgotten it
And lost thy memory through the tricks of maya.
The maya of the Lord is hard to dispel.
Without His grace this bondage is not snapped.
Over a man who has taken refuge in Him
Maya can no longer cast its spell.
Serve and worship Him and learn of His glory.
Thoughts of His glory cool the burning heart.
They make an easy path in Kaliyuga.
One ceaselessly engaged in them attains Him.
If thou canst not do that, repeat His Name.
Thou wilt find peace in the Name, Sitaram, servant of the Lord!
